At Audrey Johns Showroom, quality is our main focus which is why all of our products are assembled in-house by our experienced team of seamstresses and fabric cutters.

Get Inspired by… Sgrin House

We love getting inspiration from Instagram and have all sorts of favourites we follow and like. This issue’s recommendation is Sgrin House. The fellow Pembrokeshire company which hand prints fabrics was founded by one of our key staff members in the Cutting Crew, Alice Smith.

Graduated from Central St Martins in 2020 Alice is quickly developing a leading reputation of her own as a fine artist and textile designer. As a bespoke commission, Audrey Johns has already made use of Alice’s phenomenal printed designs by creating Roman Blinds. Follow and support Alice here.

Cushions – A Brief History

The word “Cushion” comes from Middle English cushin, Anglo-French cussin, quissin, from Vulgar Latin coxinus, and from Latin coxa.

The first cushions were stuffed or filled with straw, reeds and feathers, but at Audrey Johns Showroom we definitely prefer the more comfortable feather filling nowadays!

Cushions originated as furniture in the Middle Ages and were used for sitting on usually by lower ranking people, or as a symbol of wealth. Nowadays, cushions are used for support, comfort and to add colour, texture and pattern to living spaces. They come in a huge variety of shapes and sizes with different fillings and covers to match any home decorating style.

Cushion covers offer endless variety in fabrics, colours, and designs to complement any room and personal style. Interior designers consider them a "must-have" soft furnishing for living areas and bedrooms, adding character and style to homes without costing a fortune.
