On This Day – 1ST March 2018…

… the UK and Ireland were struck by the ‘Beast from the East’, leading to weeks of freezing temperatures, heavy snow, and heavy winds. Despite the severe conditions many of our bold staff were able and willing to walk to work and we were fortunately able to ‘keep the show on the road‘ Do you remember the big storm? We do! But here we are 6 years later, bigger and stronger (and keeping fingers for a less windy March this year!)

We are looking forward to celebrating St David’s Day this year instead of battling the storm!

Did you know? David Watson x William Morris

William Morris (1834 – 1896) was a British textile designer, poet, novelist, translator, and socialist activist. Associated with the British Arts and Crafts Movement, he was a major contributor to the revival of traditional British textile production. Morris greatly influenced interior decoration throughout the Victorian period designing tapestries, wallpaper, fabrics, and furniture that remain so recognisable today.

Now, longtime friend of our company director George Johns, Sam Petty aka ‘David Watson‘, has collaborated with the William Morris Gallery to create a silk collection of William Morris's famous designs including the world renowned ‘Strawberry Thief’.

Sam has chosen some of his favourite British artists and collaborated with them to create designs that can be worn for any occasion or the perfect accessory to your home. The scarves, ties, pocket squares and cushions are made in England from the highest quality fabrics so you can rest assured they will last the test of time. Every silk comes in a unique gift box, perfect for a special gift or to keep your silk safe. The swing tags are shaped as artist's palettes and oil tubes and tell the story about your new artwork.

You can browse the collection and make your purchase online here.

William Morris fabrics and wallpapers feature extensively at our Brunel Quay Showroom. Come and have a browse!

Beautifully reupholstered chairs available in the Showroom

Our new Showroom chair has been upholstered in ‘Vintage Rose’ upholstery fabric (£124 per metre) from Melin Tregwynt - our local woollen mill. The recommended retail cost of these chairs is £1898 however we are offering a Showroom special price of £1550 each.

This traditional Welsh double cloth design with a leaf-like pattern created in the 1960s for clothing, bags, and purses.

Today this same fabric is also used as domestic upholstery. Being pure wool it is naturally hard wearing and flame retardant plus you can choose either side to feature on your furniture.

The chair in the Showroom is paired with a Velvet Haze cushion from the Boeboes range for comfort and style. Curtains and a blanket made with Melin Tregwynt fabric ‘Vintage Star in Colourway Gorse’ are also available. This archive design, originally woven in the 1950s, was revived in 2017 and is hugely popular.

The chair features herringbone wool with multi-coloured yarn and is complemented by a Boeboes Herringbone Rust cushion. The coordinating wallpaper is displayed and available in the Showroom too.
