Horror story number two.

“I had been asked to supply and fit curtains and pelmet in one sitting room bay window, in a small bungalow. I didn’t realise that this was a moment of revelation in the village, as no one knew anyone who’d commissioned soft furnishings before. The honour was mine. The delightful customer was very excited to see her stylish new curtains in place. We arrived and were ushered into the sitting room. Our first task was to spread a white sheet across the cleared floor so any stray tools could be spotted. With everything in, the sitting room door was shut, and two hours were available to finishing time.

Straight away, the door reopened and guests started to arrive. Family, friends and neighbours began trooping in, all lining up to see the “show”. The chairs and sofas were full, it was like a cinema, and the bay window was the stage. Everyone was introduced, and my delightful customer was completely in her element, with plates of sandwiches and Welsh cakes, teapots and baby bottles, and sticky fingers everywhere.

Our toolbox brimmed with shiny screws, sharp curtain hooks and coloured wall plugs, with sparkły eyed crawling babies eager to suck and swipe them around. Young mothers sought advice on what should “go” with their beige wallpaper and whether to have frills or fringes on tie backs, while their toddlers climbed our ladder and filled their chops with raw plugs.

It was a nightmare. It was one of my first important projects and I clearly had a lot to learn. It was a very stressful afternoon, never to be forgotten by me, but much enjoyed by the customer!”

Rule No. 2: Make it clear that for domestic work, fitters must have the room to themselves at all times.

Audrey Johns is now a fine art painter, spending her time creating beautiful pieces that are exhibited at The Waterfront Gallery in Milford Haven and our Brunel Quay Showroom.

Wonderful extra ‘Showroom Open Day’

Working with our next door neighbours, Dale Sailing, we held an extra Showroom Open Day at the weekend.

The Showroom was open for our customers while our neighbours, Dale Sailing, hosted the Raymarine Roadshow 2024 showcasing their newest products, and Raymarine experts were on hand to discuss navigation equipment. Thank you to those who came along! It was lovely to see you.
